When couples have trouble conceiving a baby, various assisted reproductive technologies can be used. For one technique (called intracytoplasmic sperm injection), one egg may be removed from the woman’s ovary and placed in a culture dish. Then the egg is injected with a sperm, and the fertilized egg is implanted in the uterus.
